In addition to his "Annual Collection" paperweights, Peter McDougall sometimes released a second set of designs as "Mid-Year" weights. This Paperweight was the 2011 Mid-Year Collection Design #18. Peter describes this as a "Low Dome" design and as such, when the paperweight is viewed at an angle (not straight down from the top), the optics cause the weight to appear to have a highly curved cushion, yet without creating excessive distortion/magnification of the canes on the far side of the weight.
A checkerboard of Blue rods separates 32 large complex millefiori canes. Each of the canes is different. The millefiori rests on an opaque bright Red cushion. The weight is 2-15/16" in diameter and 1-7/8" high.
It is signed with Peter's "PMcD" cane in each of the four corners of the design. The item "Peter McDougall MID-YEAR Design #18 Large Cane Checkerboard on Red Cushion" is in sale since Saturday, October 29, 2016.
