Perthshire 1986F Double Overlay Mushroom, Annual Collection Paperweight

Each year Perthshire designed and produced a limited number of paperweights or paperweight related items that they designated their Annual Collection. Most of these weights included lampwork, or some other feature or technique outside the normal millefiori offerings of the company.

These weights were designated by the year in which they were made and a letter (A - I). All Annual Collection weights are made in only one year and with a very limited edition size. This particular weight was made in 1986. The 1986F is a closepack millefiori field pulled into the shape of a mushroom, encased and double overlaid in white and green.

This is one of only three mushroom weights ever made by Perthshire; the other two were in the Annual Collections of 1997 and 2000. The weight is cut with a round viewing puntie on the top, and five oval viewing punties alternated with five small accent cuts arranged around the circumference.

Finally a circular puntie was cut into the bottom of the weight. In the center of the millefiori field the weight is signed with a'P' cane in black on white. The weight is 3.5" in diameter at its widest point and 2.5" tall, and is in perfect condition. There is an original Perthishire sticker affixed to the base, and the weight comes with an original Perthshire presentation box.

The presentation box is in near mint condition with only very minor wear to the base and edges. Only 141 of these weights were made, out of a planned edition of 250. I do not have the certificate for this weight, and there is no engraved edition number on the weight itself, so I do not know what it's exact number is. Perthshire was founded in 1968 by Stuart Drysdale, then General Manager of Strathearn Glass.

His intent was to produce high quality paperweights in the classic French Style. Perthshire Paperweights did just that until the factory closed in 2002.
