It is a well-known fact that Kevin O'Grady is one of the first to master the art of borosilicate murrine at its most intricate delight. The Corning Museum of Glass in New York displays his works for everyone to scrutinize. O'Grady is widely considered as the "father of Vortex" since he is the first to perfect the technique. He has created HUGE marbles with combo of fume and vortex and more -- LOL. Look'em up online and make a list. On the other hand, the piece we have for sale is truly some great reward. This marble is the biggest and the original Coral Reef Vortex. The colors certainly do not look cartoonish.

This one-of-a-kind creation clearly reveals Kevin's master status. Please do not expect it to be machine-made perfect with no personality, manufacturing errors, and other hard-to-capture-on-camera anomalies.

"Burn-marks" are no stranger to Kevin when it comes to his huge pieces; these are "pin-prick-like" residues (or rough spots) left from the usage of newspaper ash in the assistance of shaping of the molten glass. Other owners (or previous owners) of his over 3.5" marbles will also tell you about these "pin prick-like residues or anomalies. We do not consider "burn-marks" as defects. They are part of the creative process. The marble is, after all, handmade and HUGE. This size is nothing to sneeze at, just to rub it in.

Not many glass craftsmen can do it. Then again, it is unfair to compare him to a craftsman, for he is a real artist, after all.

The piece truly belongs in a museum. Actual color may vary from pictures due to digital camera phenomenon, lighting, your computer settings, and other factors.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions. Thank you for stopping by.

The "Coral Reef Vortex" marble by artist Kevin O'Grady is the only one that's being auctioned off. This masterpiece will have a tamper-security sticker with a unique serial number -. Don't like the price? Do not let the initial tag intimidate you.
