Whoa, there's a lot going on in this one! All kinds of activity on this "Planet", withy a blue and teal satellite hovering in the atmosphere above. The first 11 photos are of the SAME glass marble. I've learned the artist, Josh Simpson (1949 -), prefers to call these Planets. " Since this one has a "Spaceship" or "Satellite" hovering above the land mass, this is an "Inhabited Planet.
You can see a closeup of the blue and teal Satellite in Photo #2. You are probably already a Simpson fan if you're reading this. If not, do check out his Infinity Project, in which he and his friends and followers HIDE his planets all around the world.
He has a website devoted just to the adventure. He claimed to open the first Art Glass Gallery in the U. His store, with its amazing and beautiful selection of art glass and kaleidoscopes, was a MUST VISIT for tourists and residents, alike. I just LOVED that store, and as I got older, it was a favorite for my children! NOTE TO INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, including those in CANADA. I gather the prices are quite high. The Planet/Marble is 1 7/8 inches in diameter. Thanks so much for looking! Josh Simpson Bio from the website for The Prudent Collector. Josh Simpson is a world-renowned American glass artist who has been creating breathtaking art glass items for nearly 4 decades. His highly innovative and exceedingly beautiful works include paperweights, vases, bowls, platters, and copper wire baskets with glass interiors. However his most famous works by far are his stunningly beautiful and exquisitely detailed art glass planets.Josh Simpson began creating his signature blown glass planets in 1976 when he realized that the young children from local grade schools touring his glass studio were not particularly interested in his traditional glassworks but were instead quite interested in marbles. This realization inspired Josh to work toward creating highly detailed art glass planets which resembled marbles on a much more intricate level. Depending on each planet's design he designates it as an inhabited or possibly inhabited planet. Each planet that Josh creates is always a completely unique and one of a kind creation. Josh's glass planets range from the size of a golf ball all the way up to his larger megaplanets which can be as large as a basketball!
Of all the collectibles we highlight here at The Prudent Collector, Josh Simpson's glass planets are among our absolute favorites. Their exquisite beauty makes them truly breathtaking to behold in person. Josh Simpson is also well known for his tektites which are sculptures fashioned from blown glass that replicates tektite meteor glass.
Building upon this theme, he also creates his tektite portals which incorporate the features of his planets into their center - thus creating the illusion of a portal to another world within the tektite. Josh Simpson's glass art creations have been featured in numerous prestigious art gallery and museum exhibitions. In addition Josh Simpson art glass can be found in the permanent collections of a number of museums around the world including the Corning Museum of Glass, the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, and the Museum of Arts & Design in New York.
