Orient & Flume / Lubomir Richter Herons on Silver Blue Paperweight 1980 Ltd Ed

This Orient & Flume Limited Edition (34 of 200) iridescent silver blue paperweight with engraved herons was decorated the master engraver, Lubomir Richter. The weight features four herons amid a water scene of grasses, lily pads, and other plants with a dragonfly hovering overhead. Richter was trained in Czechoslovakia before coming to the States to work as an engraver with Steuben.

This weight was engraved with copper and stone wheels at Richter's home studio in Corning, New York. He was approached by O&F in 1976 to do this work. At that time engraving iridescent glass was a new idea as almost all engraving is done on crystal.

The item is 2-1/2" (6.4 cm) tall and measures 3" (7.6 cm) in diameter. The piece is in excellent condition without chips, flea bites, scratches or bruising. The base does show minor shelf wear. The weight is signed around and just above the base Orient and Flume 34/200 July 1980 E L. It retains the original label which shows some wear.
