ANTIQUE Millville OLD ABE With AMERICAN FLAGS Art Glass Paperweight Pre 1900
Antique Millville "OLD ABE" With American Flags Art Glass Paperweight. (Circa Pre 1900) It's Beautifully done in Red, White and Blue Colors. However it could be much older? I do see two small blemishes on the same side and they both give me the impression of a BB shot.

Both can hardly be felt, but none the less are there. I also see one small ding and one flea bite on the bottoms edge. Both the ding and the flea bite can not be seen when the weight is sitting on a flat surface.

I can not see any scratches with the naked eye with exception to the bottom that does show heavy shelf ware. I would consider this Scare Piece to be in Good Condition. This Paperweight Measures 2 7/8" Diameter by 1 5/8" Tall. Please check pictures for further description. The Stand is not part of this sale and is only used here for illustrative purposes.

Was know as one of the Largest Glass Makers in the Millville, NJ area (Circa 1880) and likewise the entire country.

Southern New Jersey has been called "The Cradle of American Glass" for the same reason that it could be called The Cradle of American Asparagus Farming. There's a lot of sand in the soil, and sand (silica) is what is melted to make glass. Many of the glass makers migrated to this area from Europe in and around the late 1790s thru the mid 1800s. There were so many in this area at the time, New England Glass, Sandwich, Boston, Gillinder, Pairpoint and Millville just to name a few. Glass factories have been here for over 200 years, but it wasn't until the late 1960s that someone decided to call attention to it.

That someone was Frank Wheaton Jr. Grandson of the founder of Wheaton Industries, one of the biggest companies in glassmaking. One of my first hobbies was collecting art glass paperweights. Please follow me so you won't miss any of my fabulous items.
